View All Dates & BookFrom Bangalore’s Bull Temple to Mysore’s magnificent palace, from Ooty hill station to Bandipur’s ‘Project Tiger’ reserve, and from the misted beauty of Coorg to the mystical temples of Hassan and Hampi, this is an enthralling tour of Karnataka’s cultural riches
A comprehensive tour of the Karnataka region reveals the astonishing artistry of ancient temples, the unabashed opulence of Maharaja palaces, the wilderness of the Western Ghats, and the culture created by its chequered past. The tour begins in progressive Bangalore, with British Raj buildings at its core and ever-increasing outer boundaries. In sharp contrast, Mysore is steeped in old-world elegance and sprinkled with majestic monuments, parks and fountains. We dip into Tamil Nadu for characterful Ooty hill station, and take the splendid journey of the narrow-gauge Toy Train to Coonoor; and we seek out the elephants with safaris in Bandipur National Park. Colonial landmarks are revealed amid the coffee and cardamom plantations of Coorg. The quiet little town of Hassan nestles in a scenic setting and takes its name from the temple of ‘the smiling goddess’ Hasanamma. The UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi covers the vast, atmospheric ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire capital, shrouded in mystery, and studded with stunning architecture; and our final journey takes us into Telangana for Hyderabad, the ‘trinity city’ amalgam of medieval Old Town, British military garrison and modern cyber business hub.
Fly overnight from London Heathrow direct, or from your chosen airport, to Bangalore.
Morning arrival, wash and change facilities available. After breakfast, a tour of the city visits the lavish Tipu Sultan’s Palace, known as the Abode of Happiness; the Chitrakala Parishath visual arts complex, its galleries featuring rare paintings and sculptures; and the 16th-century Bull Temple, focused on an enormous statue of the sacred bull, Nandi. Overnight stay at the 5-star ITC Windsor Hotel.
