Discover the hidden gems of Laos on this leisurely cruise to less-visited reaches of the Mekong River. The remarkable journey is a Jules Verne exclusive, sailing on a small ship of the Pandaw fleet, with all meals included, and all tours intriguing

Overview

This memorable Upper Mekong cruise lets you enjoy the languid pace of Laos riverbank life, and experience the peace, personal service, and understated luxury of the RV Champa Pandaw river cruiser. Traditionally crafted, with colonial-era character and contemporary comfort, the intimate vessel has a panorama deck for ever-changing views, an open-air lounge and bar, bistro-style al fresco dining, and just 14 staterooms. Its route reveals the serenity of the country’s lush landscapes, the spirituality of its countless temples, the craftwork of artisans, and the culture of its various tribes. Joining the vessel in Thailand’s rural Chiang Rai region, the journey crosses into Laos for a downriver float to its capital, Vientiane, sweeping around a Mekong curve and echoing the river’s unhurried tempo. In between are visits to tribal villages and a living museum of local life; a sanctuary for formerly working elephants, where mahouts bathe their animals in the river pools; the Pak Ou Caves, with their thousand Buddhist icons; the pottery town of Ban Chan; and beguiling Luang Prabang, matching its mystical landscape of mountains and waterfalls with the same sense of timelessness.

Highlights

  • Small vessel cruising
  • Meet local communities
  • Explore the unique Pak Ou Caves
  • Enchanting Luang Prabang
  • Swim at Kuang Si Waterfall
  • Visit calm Vientiane
