Overview
Exploring the region from a base in Lucerne, you’ll witness some of Switzerland’s most spectacular Alpine scenery, with a tour leader on hand to guide you to the best spots.
You’ll stay in a hotel a stone’s throw from Lake Lucerne, and travel by train to see the local highlights. Ride Europe’s oldest cog mountain railway to the top of Mount Rigi, where you’ll visit a cheese farm and see this dazzling landscape from on high. Learn how to make Swiss chocolate at a local chocolatier, and board a scenic mountain train to the Alpine town of Engelberg. Take a cable car to the top of Mount Titlis, perched above the landscape at more than 3,000m high, and witness its glacial ice, carved with deep, bluish crevasses.
In between explorations, you’ll have free time to wander Lucerne’s medieval Old Town and its historic ramparts, admiring its lush mountain peaks and opal-blue waterfront. Sit back and let the tour leader arrange everything for you, as you take in the best of this captivating region.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Fly to Zurich then travel to Lucerne
Day 2 - Explore Lucerne and enjoy a boat cruise
See the highlights of Lucerne with a local guide this morning. Wander its atmospheric Old Town, where colourful shops and cafes line medieval lanes. Explore iconic sights like the wooden, 14th-century Chapel Bridge – the oldest covered bridge in Europe – and stroll along the walled ramparts. The afternoon is free to enjoy at leisure. Take a boat cruise on the lake, amble around the town or relax on the waterfront as you take in spectacular views over the glistening blue, mountains rising all around.

Day 3 - Cruise to Vitznau and take the train for a farm visit
Head out on a scenic lake cruise from Lucerne to the village of Vitznau this morning. On arrival, you’ll board Europe’s oldest cog mountain railway. Take in mesmerising views over Lake Lucerne and the Alps as you ascend to the top of Mount Rigi, set 1,800m above sea level. Embark on a short walk to reach a local cheese farm, where you’ll have a guided tour and tasting. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to explore this impressive landscape. Enjoy lunch at leisure, before boarding the cog railway down to the Arth-Goldau station. From there, it’s a 30-minute train ride back to Lucerne.

Day 4 - Enjoy a visit to a Swiss chocolatier
Visit a local Swiss chocolatier this morning. An expert will guide you around, sharing secrets behind the chocolate-making process. Watch demonstrations and indulge in a chocolate tasting, before making your own bar to take home. Return to Lucerne and spend the afternoon at leisure.

Day at leisure to use your included travel pass for Mount Pilatus or the open top cable car to Stanserhorn.

Day 6 - Travel by train to Engelberg and enjoy a cable car ride
Board a scenic train through the mountains to the Alpine town of Engelberg this morning. Ride the cable car to the summit of Mount Titlis, taking in 360-degree views over the surrounding valley and its impressive glacier. Enjoy free time to admire this sweeping mountain landscape from over 3,000m high, with lunch at leisure. Afterwards, ride the cable car back down to Engelberg. You’ll have some time to explore this picture-book town, home to a medieval monastery, before taking the train back to Lucerne.

Travel by train to Zurich airport today for your return flight home.
