View All Dates & BookA brilliant short break in magical Marrakech, this tour is based within the old medina, staying at the traditional Angsana Riad, where historic character is combined with contemporary comfort, and landmark sites, from souks to palaces, are all within easy reach
Much more than an introduction to Marrakech, this tour is an immersive experience of Morocco’s culture and character. Located within the historic medina, the intimate Angsana Riads, a heritage house of the prestigious Banyan Tree Hotels group. A favourite for JV guests, who are now its best customers, it puts you at the heart of the city’s history and mystery. The UNESCO World Heritage citadel was founded in the 11th century, with its fortunes made on trade in gold and ivory. Today, its red clay ramparts, pierced with twenty city gates and 200 towers, encircle thousands of labyrinthine lanes and alleyways, filled with the sights, sounds, and spicy scents of 18 souks, and focused on the mystics, musicians, and magicians of legendary Djemaa el-Fna square. Palm gardens, mosques and palaces provide an infusion of serenity, as does a Moroccan dinner on a riad rooftop terrace. With guided walking tours to show you all aspects of mesmerising Marrakech, we also offer an optional excursion exchanging the buzz of the city for the beauty of the High Atlas Mountains, to visit the rustic village of Imlil, literally ‘the end of the road’, where tarmac turns to mule tracks.
Fly from London Gatwick to Marrakech and transfer to Angsana Riad for a four-night stay in the medieval medina of Marrakech, in its heyday the capital of an empire from Spain to Senegal.
A full day tour of the city includes the beautiful, blue and white Bahia (‘Brilliance’) Palace and the ruins of 16th-century Badia Palace; the restored Saadian Tombs of seven sultans and their 62 relatives; the Dar Si Said Museum of Moroccan Arts, its collection of costumes, chests and jewellery housed in a 19th-century medina mansion; and a stroll in the colourful souks. Enjoy a Riad rooftop dinner this evening.

See a serene side of Marrakech on a morning tour, visiting the two-acre botanical garden, Jardin Majorelle; and the YSL Museum, dedicated to designer Yves Saint Laurent and exhibiting thousands of garments from his collection. Afternoon at leisure to experience this dizzying city, where souks are a kaleidoscope of colourful carpets, fabrics, spices, and jewellery; and Berber dancers draw the crowds to Djemaa el-Fna square.

An optional full day tour travels into the High Atlas Mountains, via the scenic Ourika Valley, to the little Berber village of Imlil, set amid walnut groves, blessed with fabulous views from its perch 1,740-metres above sea level, and close to North Africa’s highest peak, Toubkal; with lunch included at the unique mountain retreat, Kasbah du Toubkal, a 15-minute uphill walk from the village (pre-bookable). Alternatively, enjoy a free day in Marrakech for independent exploration.
