Escorted Tours to Mozambique

Teaming nature with culture, Mozambique meets the Indian Ocean with coral reefs and beautiful beaches hemming marine parks, and shows its colonial and contemporary character in the capital’s mix of modern towers and graceful architecture.

Why choose a tour in Mozambique?

Mozambique is a remarkably diverse country, in its scenery and topography, natural and cultural heritage, and resident and migratory wildlife.

In its northern highland regions, broad plains climb to forested mountain slopes; the central section, cut through by the Zambezi River, has fertile soil for abundant agriculture; and in the south, savanna grasslands stretch eastward toward white sands and natural harbours on the Indian Ocean’s edge, tempting traders and travellers to its glorious shores.

These varied landscapes form the habitats for creatures great and small, from pelicans, ibis, herons, and waterfowl, to elephants, antelope, big cats and reptiles in the game reserves, and dolphins and humpback whales among marine visitors.

Off-shore islands and historic towns tell the tale of Mozambique’s past and progress, nowhere more so than in the capital, Maputo. First explored by Portuguese traders in the 16th century, the port city was founded around a fortress in the late 1800s. Now the country’s cultural and commercial hub, and the jewel in its coastal crown, it lines the Santo Espirito estuary with jacaranda shaded avenues, people-watching pavement cafés, a vibrant tempo, and iconic buildings including the 1916 bronze-domed railway station, and the sharp lines and white stone of the catholic Cathedral, with its sky-piercing spire.

When to go on Mozambique holidays

With significant variations between the regions and seasons, Mozambique’s tropical climate is, in general, hot, wet and humid from December to March, when daytime temperatures can rise above 32°; warm, dry and breezy on the coast from April to November, with an average of 26-30° during the day, dropping to around 16° at night.
