Step back in time for a week as you explore the cobblestone streets, medieval castles and centuries-old villages of colourful Lake Como

Overview

On this seven-day trip, you’ll stay in the picturesque town of Lecco, embarking on guided excursions to discover some of Lake Como’s most charming spots.

You’ll have ample time to take in this scenic mountain town – the inspiration for Alessandro Manzoni’s famous novel, The Betrothed. Amble around its colourful, cobbled streets, where medieval remnants meet neoclassical charm, and take in views of its majestic mountain peaks, set behind a scenic, tranquil waterfront.

From there, head out to Bellagio, the ‘Pearl of Lake Como’, known for its elaborate, 19th-century villas. Visit Como, famous for its striking cathedral and medieval history, and embark on an excursion to the 12th-century Piona Abbey. Taste wines in the Valtellina valley, one of Italy’s least explored wine regions, and venture to the Orrido canyon, where a plume of white-water crashes down a dramatic gorge.

In between, enjoy days at leisure to see Lake Como in your own way. Hop on a boat to see the surrounding villages, venture into the mountains on a hike, take to the lake for some watersports, or board a train to Milan to witness a livelier side to this picturesque region – this is Lombardy at its most enchanting.
